Hello! My name is Michael McTate (my tribe calls me Tate) and I am the grateful owner and alternative health practitioner of Five Elements Healing Arts. I have been studying various alternative health techniques and concepts on my path for self-awareness and personal growth for several years now. I am very excited to share what I have learned and practiced through the years to the incredible community in the Fort Collins/Northern CO area. I practice an intuitive combination of shiatsu/acupressure, reiki and jin shin jyutsu energy work and sound healing. I also practice and teach the Taoists principles of Fusion of the Five Elements and Microcosmic Orbit Meditations. The synergy created between these concepts can have a profound healing and balancing effect on both the subtle and physical bodies.
My Journey in The Healing Arts
Since back pain sidelined me in 2008-2009, I have been on a mission to find the optimal balance and synergy of my mind, body, and spirit and what various avenues there are to achieve these states. I have explored countless ideology and esoteric concepts around food/diet, exercise, meditation, healing therapies and modalities, spirituality, etc. In 2015 I started practicing and in 2017 I was in the first group of US based certified instructors of the renowned Wim Hof Method. This essentially gave me a quantum leap into a another perspective on health and vitality and also what I was capable of. This became and still is the basis of me being able to cultivate, harness, and manage my energy on a physical, physiological and subtle energy level. This awakened something in me, I just wasn't sure exactly what it was.
Years ago I started self-teaching myself shiatsu and acupressure and began practicing on friends and family. I found this incredible as I could help someone to feel better and ground myself at the same time. Shiatsu coupled with acupuncture gave me an understanding and curiosity into the meridians and channels in which energy flows through our bodies. As I learned more about energy flow I started practicing the Microcosmic Orbit as taught by Mantak Chia as part of my daily routine. This was a game changer. The amount of energy I began to feel coursing through my body was hard to believe as I did this meditation and concentrated on the flow after my morning breath work and cold water session. The natural progression from there was Tai-Chi, where I learned about the Healing Hands technique. Suddenly I was able to feel an almost indescribable sensation and tingling in my hands when practicing this simple yet powerful tool. When I coupled these concepts together with the bodywork, it was almost magical how I began to feel the energy flowing through and out of my hands into whomever I was working on. I started getting incredible feedback on my touch and how people felt afterwards. I was excited to share this, but knew I still had and have LOTS of work to do on myself. I thought to myself, how could I help someone else on their journey if I still had so far to go?
I then became really interested in vibrational medicine and the subtle, etheric energy bodies and their effect on our well-being. I began training in the Neo-Shamanic Healing Institute to learn more about clearing and balancing our subtle energy bodies (and replacing Imprinted Programs/Patterns stemming from early childhood trauma) . This took me deeper into my emotions, traumas, and patterns than I had ever been. And it was scary... but empowering at the same time. I learned not only how to identify and talk through various childhood traumas (this is when we are most impressionable) but also how to "rewire" and "recode" my system to not get and stay in a triggered state. Again, the work is never done as I am slowly realizing everyday, but the results I got from this work was unprecedented on a lot of different levels. I have been able to fully drop destructive patterns I have had for years in a few short sessions and then be able to maintain that level, essentially creating a new pattern of behavior. Responding instead of reacting. Not drawing the same situations into my life over and over and over until I finally get the hint and make that change, whatever that change may be. Taking responsibility and holding myself accountable for every circumstance and every experience I ever have. It was work that went deep and is not for the faint of heart, but the experiences I had and what I learned during that training were invaluable. What I learned about myself and also how little I actually knew while giving healing sessions to people was absolutely life changing. I felt a big shift in what my purpose and focus needed to be.
To round out my subtle energy training, I took a Reiki 1 class from a phenomenal instructor and learned Jin Shin Jyutsu from a dear friend to better understand the energetic component of alternative health and wellness. These two powerful tools gave me a better idea as to how I could incorporate the energy work with the bodywork style that I do. Feeling someones chi pulse become balanced while sending that warm reiki current is about as zen as it gets.
About this time I started having beneficial and pleasant experiences while using sound bathing and aromatherapy to help reset my system. I started sharing this combination to family and friends and was amazed at the feedback I got when I intuitively combined the acupressure, energy work, sound healing and breathwork together. These positive experiences along with friendly nudges from the universe and support from my tribe are why I created and am excited to share Five Elements Healing Arts. I am on neverending journey to maximize my potential while I am here, and am excited to share with you what I find.
